San Teodoro, culture and traditions of Gallura
You are here: Home > San Teodoro > Culture and Traditions
San Teodoro is situated in the extreme North east coast of Sardinia, a part that was called in the past Gallura d'Oviddè.
The name was taken from the Middle age villa Orfili, a famous administrator of ancient Giudicato di Gallura. Here
it's spoken Gallurese, a language very similar to Corsican.
In 2004 it was written the famous vocabulary Gallurese-Italian (vocabulariu Gaddhuresu-Italianu) by
Salvatore Brandanu and San Teodoro Icimar.
Dislocated on the San Teodoro territory, like in Gallura, there are a lot of "Stazzi", typical stone
farmhouses located in the centre of every property used by shepherds and farmers.
Gallura is a particular region for its natural and cultural aspects because it is atfirst very close to Corsica
and then because was conquered, since the past, by different populations that created in this north part of
Sardinia a region with a language that could not considered a Sardinian dialect but an Italian dialect.
